Voltalia strenghtens its presence in Europe with the City’s green energy deal in the UK (we have an announcement video that could be linked to this business case: )

In November 18, 2020, the governing body of the Square Mile has signed a power purchase agreement with Voltalia to buy all the electricity produced by a new-build 95,000-panel solar farm in Dorset for 15 years.

The solar plant will have a total capacity of 49.9 megawatts – enough to power the equivalent of 15,000 homes – and will provide over half the City Corporation’s electricity, powering buildings including its historic Guildhall headquarters, three wholesale markets and the Barbican arts centre.

The City of London Corporation is the governing body of the Square Mile dedicated to a vibrant and thriving City, supporting a diverse and sustainable London within a globally successful.

LCL (CPPA) Name of the project: LCL Installed capacity: 55 MW Commissioning date: 10/2020

Voltalia reinforces its leadership in the PPA sector and launched a new service for businesses, the first long-term supply contracts for green electricity LCL, a leading bank for small and medium-sized businesses, have partnered with Voltalia to offer a unique service in France: enable some fifteen of the companies most involved in the energy transition to benefit from contracts that will secure their supply of green electricity produced in France over a long period of time, at guaranteed prices and capacities.

This project is the first multi-purchaser Green Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (Green CPPA) in France. The electricity will come from a 55-megawatt photovoltaic plant, which Voltalia will develop and operate. This plant, located in the South of France, will also host an agricultural activity, making this project an example in terms of supporting the local economy.

      SNCF ENERGIE (CPPA)

SNCF ENERGIE (CPPA) Name of the project: SNCF ENERGIE Installed capacity: 143 MW Commissioning date: 6/2019

Also a first in France, SNCF ENERGIE and Voltalia partnered to a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with a capacity of nearly 150 MW.

This Corporate PPA is the largest one in France and for the volume of energy supplied, it ranks among the 10 most important corporate PPAs in Europe.

The PPA covers a capacity of 143 MW and should provide between 3% and 4% of the power required for SNCF Mobilités train traffic by 2022-2023.

This agreement creates three new solar plants, to be built, owned and operated by Voltalia, acting directly against climate change.

        BOULANGER (CPPA)

BOULANGER (CPPA) Name of the project: Boulanger Installed capacity: 5 MW Commissioning date: 12/2019

Boulanger and Voltalia signed the first Corporate PPA agreement in France May 21, 2019: it bonds directly the Boulanger Group to a solar plant which Voltalia will build, own and operate.

Boulanger and Voltalia have committed on a first 25-year Corporate PPA, a pioneering approach in France. It enables the investment in a new solar plant project, increasing the capacity of “green” watts installed in France. Built and operated by Voltalia, with a capacity of 5 MW, the power plant will be commissioned before end 2022.

          TALAGARD

TALAGARD Name of the project: Talagard Installed capacity: 5 MW Commissioning date: 12/2019 CO2 emissions avoided (tons): 973 tCO2/ano

Talagard is a 5MW solar park built in fixed structures with 12 796 PV panels and has an estimated production of 7 800 MWh. During the construction of this project several companies were employed, including 6 local companies. Talagard solar park will avoid the emission of 973 tons of CO2.

            TACONNAZ

TACONNAZ Name of the project: Taconnaz Installed capacity: 4.5 MW Commissioning date: 11/2019 Households powered: ~ 4 800

The Taconnaz run-of-river hydroelectric power plant has a capacity of 4.5 MW on the Taconnaz torrent in Haute-Savoie (France).

The production of the Taconnaz hydroelectric power plant will ensure the annual electricity consumption of approximately 4,800 households, covering nearly 90% of the population of the communes of Chamonix and Les Houches.

While most European glaciers are melting under the effect of global warming, the construction of a hydroelectric power plant at the foot of the Taconnaz glacier contributes to the fight against these deregulations by producing electricity without Co² emissions.

              RA SOLAR

RA SOLAR Name of the project: RA Solar Installed capacity: 32 MW Commissioning date: 10/2019 Households powered: 19 000
Jobs provided: 340 jobs provided (200 from local communities)
                CO2 emissions avoided (tons): 35 556 tCO2/ano

The RA SOLAR project consisted in the completion of the 25MW solar power plant located in the middle of the Egyptian desert at 50km away from the city of Aswan.

Since the start of the work on site, until the achievement of commercial to operation date of the PV plant, in October 2019, the constructions stage would have lasted approximately ten months. It includes the laying of 300km of mostly underground electrical cables, the installation of more than 1000 solar trackers and nearly 100 000 PV modules spread over 60 000 m2.

CORUCHE Name of the project: Coruche Installed capacity: 9,6 MWp Commissioning date: Setembro 2014 GWh produced per year: 14,7GWh

Since the start of the O&M activity in this solar project, Voltalia has been focused on ways to integrate our solar plant with the local economy to reduce and optimize costs, the possibility of using animals from local shepherd to control vegetation (horses, ponies, sheep and donkeys) helps Voltalia saving about 60% of the cost of cutting the vegetation.

NOTE: Voltalia has this approach in approximately 60% of our solar parks in Portugal, always depending on the existence of local partners.
