Sinnamary Biomass Power Plant in French Guiana

The 10.5 MW Sinnamary biomass power plant developed by Voltalia in French Guiana, currently under construction, will be commissioned in 2025. It will generate up to 80 GWh of electricity per year, representing 8% of the electricity demand of the Guyanese coastline.

The Petit Saut Sawmill and Energy Hub Project in French Guiana

The biomass power plant is part of the Petit Saut Sawmill and Energy Hub Project currently under construction by Voltalia and its subsidiary Triton Timber in French Guiana. The project, with an investment of over €200m, involves the local valorization of part of the submerged wood resource of Lake Petit Saut.

On the one hand, Triton Guyane, a French company specializing in the exploitation of submerged forests, is developing the project to harvest and valorize the wood, in particular to meet the growing demand for lumber in French Guiana, thanks to the Pôle Scierie. At the same time, the biomass power plant aims to convert unsuitable species for sawmill processing into electrical energy.

The Petit Saut Sawmill and Energy Hub Project will produce around 9,000m3/year of construction timber thanks to the sawmill, and will generate up to 8% of the region's electricity needs thanks to French Guiana's largest biomass power plant. The project will create over 90 direct local jobs during the 25-year operating phase.
